World Cancer Day Observed in Bangladesh and West Bengal

Today is World Cancer Day observed by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO, along with the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) tries to raise awareness about the deadly disease that is plaguing the world.

Each year, about 70 percent deaths occur due to cancer globally. In Bangladesh alone, there are about 1.2 million cancer patients according to survey reports released on UN Cancer Day on Thursday. The reports said about 200,000 cancer patients die every year while 150,000 more are affected by cancer annually in the country. Our VOA Correspondent from Dhaka, Zahurul Alam has more on this.

Our VOA Correspondent from Kolkata, Paramashish Ghosh Roy reports about the conference held in Kolkata to observe World Cancer Day. The Health Minister Shurjokanto Misra was present in the conference.
