The High Court has ordered the government to create a new warrant of precedence within 60 days, placing officials with District Judge rank above Army, Navy, and Air Chief. The court declared illegal the placing of the Army, Navy, and Air Chiefs in the existing warrant of precedence, at the 12th position. The position of District Judges and equivalent ranked officials, including additional Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate, and Chief Metropolitcan Magistrate, is 24.
This order was given on Thursday by the bench of Syed Refaat Rahman and Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury. In 2006, the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association filed a petition challenging the legality of the existing warrant of precedence which was drafted in 1986.
