West Bengal to Open Model Schools

In West Bengal, the Central Government has decided to open 24 model schools. The plan is to start building the schools this year so that they can be opened next year.

Most of the schools that exist in West Bengal now were built during the British rule. After receiving independence from the British government, not many schools were built. In the last 32 years, only two schools were built. Among the 83 blocks in Kolkata, 24 schools will be built on 24 blocks adding to the 44 public schools that are currently present. To build each school, at least 3 crore 2 lakh would be required. The Central Government will pay 75 percent of the amount.

In Salt Lake, Kolkata, a girls’ school and a sports school have been built in the name of Begum Rokeya.
