On Tuesday, Shafique Ahmed, law minister of Bangladesh, said the US government is carrying out an investigation to find out if there are links between Jamaat-e-Islami, the opposition party of Bangladesh and Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based military group.
The minister said that several suspects arrested recently on charges of militant activities have disclosed information including the sources of income for their operations. Last year, at least four people were arrested in Chittagong and Dhaka, who authorities believe were planning to attack the Indian and US embassies there.
The US has pledged to train RAB and police of Bangladesh to eliminate militant activities and fight terrorism.
