Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina holds talks in Beijing this week on development assistance and closer economic ties with China.
The Prime Minister left Wednesday for a five-day visit, her first official trip to China since taking office last year. Ms. Hasina is scheduled to hold talks with her Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabo, on Thursday and with Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday.
Prime Minister Hasina is seeking Chinese assistance for infrastructure projects including the construction of a railroad through Burma that will link the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming to Bangladesh.
Ms. Hasina will later travel to Kunming to meet with local government officials.
The two governments are also expected to sign agreements on investment protection, construction of a fertilizer factory and an economic cooperation agreement.
