Dr. Ijaz Hossain Focuses on Combating Power Shortage in Bangladesh

In an exclusive interview with Voice of America, Dr. Ijaz Hossain talked about the acute shortages of electricity and gas in Bangladesh, especially in Dhaka, the capital city.

Dr. Hossain discussed what needs to be done immediately to give some relief to the people in this hot and dry summer time. Along with possible immediate solutions, he also talked about plans for the future.

He is hopeful about the power plants that are being built in Bangladesh though he believes that these initiatives should have been taken earlier. The delay in implementation of the initiatives that the government had been advised to take has caused the country to face this grave situation at the moment but the government is trying sincerely to change this, and so, Dr. Hossain is optimistic today.

Dr Ijaz Hossain is a professor of Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He is also a specialist in the power sector.
