In an exclusive interview with VOA, geo-physicist Abdul Wahab speaks about the critical situation regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the attempts to improve the situation.

BP, the oil company says that its engineers are making a second attempt to use a two-kilometer-long tube to catch oil from a gushing well in the Gulf of Mexico. Engineers are attempting to insert the tube into the ruptured well pipe which has leaked hundreds of thousands of liters of oil into the Gulf since the drilling rig exploded on the 20th of April. The tube will not stop the leak, but will siphon the oil to a surface vessel. On Saturday, BP said its first attempt to connect the two pieces of equipment below the water's surface failed and engineers are making adjustments. Abdul Wahab discusses the successes and failures of this attempt.

Abdul Wahab is a consultant at an international oil firm.
