Election for the grassroot level local body Union Parishad in Bangladesh begins from Saturday January 25. This election will be held in different phases and is scheduled to be completed on 16th March. On the first day , the election is being held in 53 districts ( comprising 57 Upazillas and 327 Union Parishad ) . Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) MA Syed yesterday told journalists that the government's attitude remained "unchanged" and it "refused to provide army for maintaining law and order during in the Union Parishad (UP) polls". It is however expected that election would be held peacefully despite apprehensions of violence.
