Democracy in Bangladesh: Problems & Prospects : Part:21 - 2003-11-10

This episode highlights a very special incident during March 1971 when meetings between Pakistan's Military government and Awami League , the majority party elected in a general election held for the first time in the history of the country , was gaining ground. On the fringe of the main meetings , Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto , the leader of the second majority party in Pakistan and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of the majority party met almost incidentally. In the lush green lawn of the President House in Dhaka , Bangabandhu requested Bhutto to accept the proposed constitution and reminded him that the Bengalees would not accept any thing short of that. This also mysteriously marks the beginning of the end of the inclusive discussions.
