Awami League general Secretary Abdul Jalil Sunday reiterated his party’s demand for an international investigation into the Chittagong arms and ammunition haul, and accused the BNP-led government of putting national security open to questions.
Unless the government launches an international investigation, it would be proved that the arms smugglers could be very much from within the government, Jalil said, claiming that most of the past 22 arms haul cases were left without thorough investigation and people behind such big crimes remained unidentified.
The government in a press note Sunday urged news media to stop publishing speculative news on the largest ever arms haul in Chittagong as it may create confusion and misunderstanding among people.
