SAARC Council of Ministers' Summit Begins in Islamabad on July 20 - 2004-07-15


The two-day Inter-Summit Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers begins in Islamabad on July 20 to review progress in implementation of the outcome of the 12th Summit held in Pakistan capital last January. Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan will leave here for Islamabad on July 17 to attend Foreign Minister-level meeting, said a Foreign Ministry release in Dhaka on Thursday. The 12th Summit adopted three landmark documents the SAARC Social Charter, the South Asian Free Trade Area Agreement (SAFTA) and the Additional Protocol to the SAARC Convention on Terrorism. In addition, the Summit endorsed the Report of the Independent South Asian Commission on Poverty Alleviation (ISACPA) which elaborates a comprehensive SAARC agenda with regard to poverty.
