The Bangladesh parliament has opened its new session amid more protests organized by the opposition Awami League.
Protesters marched on the parliament building Sunday, but were turned back by a heavy police presence. Rainstorms reduced the expected turnout.
Awami League officials say they called the march to protest a deadly grenade attack last month that the party considers an assassination attempt on its leader Sheikh Hasina. The League has staged a series of strikes and protests, saying the government has not done enough to respond to the violence.
