Top Palestinian Leaders To Fly To Paris To Assess Arafat Condition - 2004-11-07

Top Palestinian leaders say they will fly to Paris on Monday to consult with doctors about Yasser Arafat's health.

Mr. Arafat remains in serious condition in a Paris hospital and speculation has surrounded reports his health is deteriorating.

Top officials, including current Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia and former Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, are expected to travel.

The planned trip follows statements from Palestinian political leaders and heads of militant groups calling for unity in the event the ailing leader soon dies.

Also today, Israel says it completed preparations for the long-time Palestinian leader to be buried in Gaza. Mr. Arafat has made it clear in the past that he wants to be buried in Jerusalem -- but Israel rejects that.
