Nargis Akhter, a film maker from Bangladesh  speaks to VOA

Nargis Akhter is an exceptional film maker in Bangladesh who was praised for making an educational film on the risk of the fatal disease AIDS where Shabana Azmi, the internationally reputed actress played a major role.

She is, however, not only confined to making films; her wider field of interest is development communications. In an exclusive interview with Voice of America , she says that in fact she got inclined towards making films when she realized that movies and films could be an effective way of communicating with the mass and disseminating developmental thoughts.

Nargis, therefore embarked on a program which she calls “ Education through Entertainments.” Both as a film maker and director she has done the daunting task of combining entertainment with social awareness building. She has also embarked upon areas few filmmakers would dare to approach and that too with remarkable boldness and honesty.
