Guest: Mufizul Islam
Freelance Journalist and Writer
Based in Yangon, Myanmar
Topic: Is there a possibility of civil war in Myanmar?
Translation Summary: Mufizul Islam, a freelance Journalist told VOA Rohingya Lifeline that the current situation in Burma is the worst since the military took power in a coup on February 1. Myanmar people are united to topple the military regime. Many young people so called “generation-Z” have been united and engaged fighting against military rule. Despite the strong support of the people, the junta does not seem to be relinquishing power. Military-coordinated police forces are regularly cracking down on peaceful protesters anywhere in the country. Uncountable men and women were killed by snipers during demonstrations. A Rohingya girl was killed during a CDM protest rally in Mrauk-U Kalapa Township yesterday, and many Muslims have been killed in recent days. It is a nationwide protest, regardless of race and religion, including Rohingyas.
He added, in this situation, in my view, the United Nations and other organizations around the world should not only monitor the dire situation in Burma but also take action to prevent the killing of innocent civilians, because the army is overstepping its bounds. The world should intervene, exert pressure, and extend aid to save innocent protesters from military aggression. The UN should do more on an urgent basis to support the democratic system. CRPH {Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw) represents the victorious NLD government and is now organizing ethnics armed groups to form a Federal Army to fight against the terrorist army led by Min Aung Hlaing. If the armed groups agree to fight the coup with the CRPH, there will be a larger civil war in Burma as a power struggle, Mufizul Islam told VOA Rohingya Lifeline during the interview.
