Mr. Bansogopal Chowdhury, former state small industries minister and aCPI-M candidate defeated Trinamul Congress candidate Mr. Moloy Ghatakby 230,000 votes and won the Asansol Lok Shabha by-election. The by-election was held on 28 September with a 60 per cent turn-out, followed by re-pollingin a booth on 1 October. Paramasish Ghosh Roy has more on the story.
