Indian UGC favors Semester System in Education

University Grants Commission in India has proposed to do away with traditional annual examinations. Instead, they are proposing for four semester exams in a year on small parts of the syllabus. They feel that a proper evaluation of the achievements in exam is no longer possible through those traditional exams.

S K Thorat , the Chairman of UGC said in Kolkata that Semester system is very scientific way of evaluating a students achievements. If the Central government in India accepts the proposals by UGC, it would bring in revolutionary changes in gradauation and post-graduation examinations in India.
