Maoist Attack in West Bengal

At least six bus passengers were injured in West Bengal's West Midnapore district on Friday when Maoists triggered three powerful landmine blasts attempting to target a vehicle carrying security forces and then fired upon them.

The Maoist targeted a police jeep in which 12 CRPF jawans trained in anti-insurgency operations were traveling just ahead of the Jhargram-Chandrakona bus at Domohoni village near their stronghold of Belpahari, sources said.

A Midnapore report said at about 2:30 pm, as the police jeep crossed a culvert and when the bus was about to pass over it, three powerful landmines planted underneath exploded.

The police sources say that the blasts were triggered by remote-control and three maoists opened fire on the policemen immediately afterwards.
