Bangladesh Seeks Global Reconstruction Aid After Devastating Cyclone

Bangladesh is appealing for more than two billion dollars in global aid to rebuild the southern coast, after it was devastated by a powerful cyclone last month.

The appeal was made at a meeting between Bangladeshi officials, donors and international lending agencies in the capital, Dhaka. Millions of dollars in aid already has been pledged.

Cyclone Sidr killed more than 32-hundred people, and the United Nations says the storm affected eight-point-five million others.

Sidr was the worst storm to hit Bangladesh in more than a decade, striking the southern coast with powerful winds and a tidal wave that destroyed entire villages.
