The request came when US
Ambassador in Dhaka James F Moriarty called on the Prime Minister at the Prime
Minister's Office (PMO) in the morning.
Hasina assured the US Ambassador
of investment-friendly environment in the country and Moriarty also expressed
interest for more investment from his country.
She informed the US Ambassador
about her government's strong stand on alleviating poverty, the "main
enemy" of the South Asian region, and against terrorism.
The Prime Minister thanked
Ambassador Moriarty as the outgoing US President George W Bush greeted her for
taking the charge through a free, fair and neutral election.
She also hailed the United States
for sending election monitoring team in holding the December 29 polls in
peaceful and acceptable manner and for its interest in restoring democracy in
Bangladesh.
Hasina and Moriarty discussed in
details the issues of mutual interests and hoped that the existing friendly
relations between the two countries will be strengthened further in the coming
days.
Later, outgoing Australian High
Commissioner Douglas Foskett paid a farewell call on the Prime Minister at the
PMO.
Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged the United States to invest in Bangladesh in
larger volume and emphasized on more US cooperation in energy and power sectors of the
country.
