Pakistani
security forces say they are searching for the gunmen who escaped after
ambushing a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore Tuesday.
Authorities say the attack killed eight people, mostly police officers, and wounded
at least 16 more, including seven Sri Lankan players.
Lahore's police chief (Habibur Rehman) said at least 12 men attacked the
team's convoy with rockets, hand grenades and automatic weapons as it
approached the city's Gaddafi stadium Tuesday morning.
The governor of Punjab province (Salman Taseer) told reporters the
attack resembles the terrorist assault on the Indian city of Mumbai three
months ago.
Pakistani TV showed footage of the attackers with backpacks running through the
streets and firing assault rifles. Police said they recovered guns,
rocket-propelled grenades and plastic explosives abandoned by the assailants.
