Bangladesh Parliamentary Committee Calls Explanations from ACC

Defying summons by the parliamentary standing committee on public undertakings, ex-chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission Lt General (Retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury and serving bosses of the watchdog refrained from appearing in the committee's meeting at Sangsad Bhaban .

The standing committee served notices upon the ex-ACC chairman Gen Mashhud, acting chairman Habibur Rahman, commissioner Manzur Mannan and former ACC secretary Delwar Hossain to appear before the parliamentary watchdog body during Sunday’s meeting to testify on the anti-graft watchdog agency's activities in the last two years.

Taking exception to the defiant stand taken by the crusaders against corruption, the standing-committee chairman, Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, told reporters that the former and incumbent ACC officials undermined parliament and violated the constitution by not responding to the committee's call.
