NATO says Afghan and international forces killed 20 suspected militants
and arrested scores of others in three operations in southern
Afghanistan since Sunday.
In Kandahar province Monday, a joint security force detained one
suspected militant in a compound used by the Taliban to supply weapons
to other militants in the area.
A day earlier, more than a dozen militants were killed and several were detained in the province's Shorabak district.
In volatile Helmand province Sunday, soldiers detained a suspected militant commander (Haji Khan Mohammed) accused of running drug operations that provide financial support to insurgents in the south.
The joint force also found a weapons cache that included 40
rocket-propelled grenades, material for making homemade explosives and
20 mortar rounds.
And, during a raid in Zabul province Sunday, a joint security force
killed several militants and found weapons and communications gear.
