Iranian Suicide Attack Kills Revolutionary Guards Commanders

A suicide bomber in Iran has killed six commanders of the elite Revolutionary Guards and at least 35 other people.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the attack was planned in Pakistan. The blast in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province Sunday also wounded dozens of people.

The bomber blew himself up at a meeting of Revolutionary Guards and Shi'ite and Sunni tribal leaders in a city called Pisheen close to the border with Pakistan. The border region is home to an escalating Sunni insurgency and has seen frequent clashes between Iranian security forces, Sunni rebels and drug traffickers.

Iran's semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Mr. Ahmadinejad as saying that some security agents in Pakistan are cooperating with the main figures responsible for Sunday's attack.
