A special court in Bangladesh has sentenced 56 border guards to prison terms of up to seven years, in connection with last year's deadly mutiny that killed 74 people.
The verdicts announced Monday are the fourth since the mutiny last February.
Before these latest sentencings, 136 border guards had been sentenced to similar jail terms for their involvement in the 2009 rebellion at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters.
Prosecutors say the court in the southern district of Sathkhira acquitted four border guards on Monday. Twenty-four of those convicted received the maximum sentence of seven years.
During last year's mutiny, guards violently took control of their main barracks in Dhaka, and the rebellion then spread to various paramilitary posts. Prosecutors say the mutiny began in protest over low pay and poor treatment.
