On Thursday, Abdul Matin, chief of the war crimes investigation agency in Bangladesh said the War Crimes Fact Finding Committee has published a list of 500 suspects that it claims to have been involved in crimes against humanity during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan.

Matin also said that the special tribunal will prosecute people charged with war crimes whether or not they are in the country. However, International Crimes Tribunal Act of 1973 has no separate provision for trials with suspects who are not present in court. That is the act under which the prosecutions will be carried out.
