ADB Chief Says : Corruptions and Law and Order Situation is Still A Problem in Bangladesh - 2002-11-02

President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Tadao Chino yesterday said the challenges facing Bangladesh were complex and numerous. He stressed the need for tackling corruption and governance issues and improving law and order to sustain economic growth and reduce poverty. He said that unless these issues were addressed, they would obstruct private sector investment, both domestic and foreign.The ADB is expected to lend more than US$ 1 billion to Bangladesh during 2003-2005, with US$ 850 million to come from its Asian Development Fund -- the Bank's window for highly concessional lending.
