India's Singh, Russia's Putin Hail Close, Friendly Bilateral Ties - 2004-12-03

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Russian President Vladimir Putin have pledged to boost military, business and technological cooperation.

The two leaders told reporters after their talks in New Delhi Friday that their countries are maintaining a solid and friendly relationship.

The two men also signed a number of cooperation agreements in areas ranging from anti-terrorist efforts to energy and space.

New Delhi and Moscow have had close ties since the Cold War. Moscow used to supply more than two-thirds of India's military equipment.

But that share has declined in recent years, as India has sought closer relations with other countries, including the United States.

During his three-day visit, Mr. Putin is also scheduled to meet with business leaders to explore cooperation in information technology.
