At Least Two Dead in Cairo Blast

Egyptian officials say a bomb attack at a Cairo shopping bazaar popular with tourists killed two people, including a French woman.

Officials initially said the blast also killed a U.S. national, but later said the second fatality may have been an Egyptian who carried out the attack. At least 18 other people were wounded, including Egyptians, Turks, Americans, Britons, Italians and French citizens.

The motive for the Thursday attack was not immediately known. Several tourist bazaars are located in the area, which is near Cairo's prestigious al-Azhar University and mosque. In the 1990s Islamic militants carried out several attacks on foreign tourists visiting Egypt as part of their campaign to bring down the government.
