Translation summary: On Tuesday in Kutupalong Registered Camp, 76 Bangladeshi and Rohingya teachers collected certificates from a second round of training in English language education. Their training – supported by UNHCR, Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC) and the Community Development Center (CODEC) aid group – was provided in partnership with VOA Learning English. They had an initial round of training last March. UNHCR protection officer Adam Nord kicked off the certificate ceremony with words of support for the collaborative program. He said it was important to train teachers in both host and Rohingya communities “so that they can lead the upcoming generation.” VOA’s Anna Matteo created the training content, which blends traditional teaching methods with student-led activities to make learning more engaging and interactive. After the first round of training, teachers took those lessons back into the classroom for their own students. When the Learning English team visited a learning center on this trip, Matteo said, youngsters “were singing songs and playing games that we had taught to the teachers. … We come up with materials for fun and joyful learning. That is very important.” Rahma Rashid Toki “learned a lot of things from this training, especially rhyming activities, and also how to read and spell correctly,” she said, adding that she hoped such training will continue.
