Guest: Zaw Min Htut
President of Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan
Topic: Myanmar Government Policy on Rohingya Minority and the History of Rohingya
Translation Summary: Zaw Min Htut a Rohingya author and President of Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan told VOA Rohingya Lifeline that the Myanmar government concealed evidence of the truth long civilization history of Rohingya in Arakan state. I wrote the book `` The Union of Burma and Ethnic Rohingya `` in 2001 in Japan. As I am not a historian, I compiled the book with many authentic references, reading so many historical books written by foreign & Myanmar scholars as well as Rohingya elders & researchers. On the last pages of the books, you may find all the references such as R.B Smart, Burma Gazetteer, Moshe Yegar, The Muslim of Burma 1972, D.G.E. Hall, Burma 1950, Dr.Kanungo, history of Chittagong, Asiatic Research, Calcutta Vol.5 1881, Pamela Gutman, Ancient Arakan 1976, Australia National University, British - Burma Administration Report 1870-71, etc.
He said, Myanmar military & successive governments erased Rohingya historical records from Myanmar history since 1962 & continuously campaigned to deny Rohingya ethnicity by using false propaganda mechanisms such as Rohingyas are interlopers from Bangladesh during the British colonial era. They have been brain-washing the whole Myanmar people against the Rohingya. But the British Ambassadors in Rangoon also acknowledge that the Rohingya Muslim were living in Arakan state before British era and the false allegation by Myanmar is unacceptable. I have called on Myanmar historians and politicians an open challenge to prove whether or not Rohingya are originally from the Arakan state or migrated from Bangladesh. We, Rohingya would accept if Myanmar able to prove with strong evidence that Rohingya are interlopers from Bangladesh, otherwise Myanmar must accept the truth of Rohingya history and one of an ethnic group in Myanmar. History cannot deny. We will continue to approach the international communities including European countries and the United State to put pressure on Myanmar. I hope by the blessing of God, we will able to reach our destination if work together.
Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi led the NLD party reelected on Nov 8, 2020 Election in Myanmar where Rohingyas were disenfranchised Rohingya voters and blocked Rohingya candidates from running for the 2020 national election. Suu Kyi has been State Councilor in the previous government. Under her watch, genocidal crimes were committed by the military on Rohingya & she went to ICJ to deny it for the favor of the Military.
We Rohingya wholeheartedly welcomed President-elect Joe Biden & his new administration. He himself & his nominee for Secretary of the state are very much aware of Rohingya's cause and suffering from long decades. He will give priority to human rights violations, discrimination & freedom of religion which all are related to our very own sufferings. That is why I believe the US newly elected government will take the Rohingya issue se
