Translation Summary: This year in 2021, Rohingyas are spending the month of Ramadan for the fourth time and are going to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. Asked how they are spending the month of Ramadan this year and how much they are preparing for Eid-ul-Fitr, Hafez Mohammad Ayub of Camp No. 12 said, as the days go by, Refugee life is getting harder. In previous years, they received a lot of help during the month of Ramadan and were able to prepare well for Eid. But this year, due to the lock-down, they are not getting any extra help on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, as well as people are becoming unemployed due to the lock-down, so more people are fasting without having food when they are supposed to and are not able making any preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr. Report: VOA News Related item code: 9-P Duration: 9:27 minutes Translator: Mohammed Rukon Uddin (Cox’s Bazar) Topic: Latest development of Myanmar military coup highlighting anti-coup protesters activities and National Unity Government (NUG) and where it can take in the future. Translation Summary: Mr. Aman Ullah, a Rohingya teacher, historian and researcher made comments on the latest situation in Myanmar regarding coup. He said,” Since the Military coup on February 1st till now around 774 people have been killed. More than 3778 people have been forcibly arrested. Protesters are not giving up and continue protesting till they are able to topple the military government. On the other hand military continues to destroy demonstration, arresting, killing the civilians in order to hold their power tight. These might create civil war ahead in Myanmar which will bring numerous problems in that country. Many will die if civil war last long and no one will be benefited from it. ASEAN sent five proposal to Ming Aung Hling and he decline each one of them. International community like USA should intervene to normalize the situation. In a foreign affairs meeting on last May 4th Myanmar ambassador was asked whether Rohingyas will be included in National Unity Government (NUG) or not, whether Rohingyas will be given their citizenship back, he wasn’t able to answer. It is not still clear whether Rohingyas will be included in NUG or not. Situation of Rohingyas are also bad. More than 500 thousand Rohingyas are inside Myanmar, about 200 thousand Rohingyas are in IDP camp Myanmar and 1 million in Bangladesh. International community’s support and intervention might help to bring new government in Myanmar if they accept international intervention. Besides I on behalf of Rohingya community is urging upon NUG through Voice of America to “declare Rohingyas as the ethnic minority and citizen of Myanmar, provide their full citizenship and all rights”.
