Guests: Dr.Wakar Uddin, Ph.D. Professor, Pennsylvania State University Director-General, Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) Founding Chairman, The Burmese Rohingya Assoc. N. America Supreme Council, The Muslim World League Translation Summary: Dr.Wakar told VOA Rohingya Lifeline that according to sources from the ground in Arakan, it appears that Arakan Army is controlling many areas in Arakan, but it is difficult to know how much area or what percentage that they are controlling. However, it is also evident that the Government is controlling many townships, particularly some metropolitan areas. What I saw in the explanation by Arakan Army in the media interview is that they did not abuse anyone, but they were investigating some crimes in their administrative area following some complaints of the crimes filed by Muslim villagers to the Arakan Army administration. The joint statement released by the Ulema Council appears to be consistent with the accounts given by the Arakan Army. In addition to these developments, we are also very concerned about the surge of COVID-19 in Arakan. According to reports, the officials of the Arakan State Health Department said there is no vaccine quota for the Muslim population and also no directive received from the Government administration. I urge all Rohingya people of Arakan to take extra caution and avoid mass gathering in markets or any other places and always use face masks. If Myanmar Government does not vaccinate Rohingya population, the Government must give international medical groups access to all areas of Arakan for vaccination and providing other medical services. About the report to OIC, yes, the copies of the report not only go to various offices in OIC but also goes to the Justice Minister of Gambia and the lawyers in Washington who are handling the Rohingya genocide case at the ICJ. Report: VOA News Related item code: 9-P Duration: 06:40 minutes Reporter: Sabera Begum (Cox’s Bazar) Topic: The rations currently provided are not sufficient for families of above 5 people. Translation Summary: Since the Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh in August 2017, NGOs and INGOs have been providing rations to them, also everything they need. But now rations support has been slashed, large families are having a hard time with rations. Miya Hussain from Camp 4 said, even before Corona virus, NGOs used to provide adequate rations for the Rohingyas, so they did not have to struggle to make a living. Due to various problems and situations, the amount of assistance has decreased a lot compared to the past. He added that small families can spend a month on rations but large families have a hard time. Meanwhile, there is no way to earn income in the camp, in that case the large families borrow rations from other families and return them when they get rations next month.
