Police in Indian Kashmir say two soldiers have been killed and another wounded as they were raiding a house southwest of Srinagar. Police say security forces surrounded the house on Thursday after receiving a tip that Islamic separatists were hiding there. They say the militants opened fire at the troops, triggering a gun battle that lasted several hours. It is not clear if there were any rebel casualties. But the French news agency said two militants also died in the incident. More than a dozen guerrilla groups have been fighting Indian security forces since 1989 for Kashmir's independence or its merger with neighboring Pakistan.
