Scientists Display First Images of Titan's Surface Sent From Space Probe

The European Space Agency has displayed the first images sent from the space probe Huygens after landing on Saturn's largest moon Titan. The probe sent pictures and data on Friday after parachuting through Titan's atmosphere -- the climax of a three billion dollar joint project of the U.S., European, and Italian space agencies. Officials at the European Space Agency Operations Control Center in Darmstadt, Germany say the first picture, taken from an altitude of 16 kilometers, shows a series of what appears to be river channels. The probe sent some 350 pictures while operating for three hours in Titan's atmosphere and on its surface, which was longer than expected. Huygens was carried to Saturn by the NASA spacecraft Cassini.
