Bush Honors US Military In First Inaugural Event

President Bush has paid tribute to U.S. troops serving around the world, as the first of several days of events surrounding his inauguration kicked off in Washington. Mr. Bush spoke Tuesday at an event honoring the military, called "Saluting Those Who Serve." He said he is grateful for the troops' service and that he is proud to be their commander-in-chief.

It was the first in a series of receptions, dances and other events leading up to and following President Bush's inauguration to a second term Thursday at the U.S. Capitol Building. Workers are preparing the city for the hundreds of thousands of people expected to attend the inauguration ceremony and parade. Some 6,000 law enforcement officers and thousands of U.S. troops will provide security.
