Cell Phone Buyers in Dhaka Come Under Battlefied:

Scores of people were injured in baton charges of law enforcing agencies when they were trying to procure prescribed forms for purchasing the much-talked-about mobile phones of Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) in the city on Thursday.Thousands of people, both men and women, were seen standing in long queues, defying the opposition sponsored hartal since early in the morning to collect prescribed forms for the SIM (subscriber identification module) cards of mobile phones. Police used lathi charge on people at the queues in front of Basic Bank Ltd at Ramna Telephone Office, resulting in injury of many people. At one stage, some unruly people swooped on the bank office and damaged some glass doors and window panes of the bank . Meanwhile, Minister for Post and Telecommunications Barrister Aminul Haque told newsmen that marketing of government owned cell phones had been started. He hoped that the Teletalk would be available from the next week.
