Political Leaders Demand Reforms in the Election Commission

Top leaders of the major opposition parties yesterday demanded the Government to appoint the next Chief Election Commissioner and its members by May and reform the caretaker government system on the basis of consensus.

They made the demand at a public meeting at the Paltan Maidan in Dhaka and urged people to launch a united mass movement if the Government did not implement their demands.

Dr Kamal, who presided over the meeting, asked the Government to hold a roundtable meeting of all political parties immediately in order to arrive at a consensus on the proposed reform of the Election Commission and the caretaker government system.
