The outgoing US Ambassador, Harry Keels Thomas Jr, termed Bangladesh a ‘dangerous place’ for the journalists, and praised their role in bringing transparency in the country’s various sectors. ‘You have the toughest jobs here…Bangladesh is a dangerous place for journalists,’ he told reporters after his farewell call on the finance and planning minister, M Saifur Rahman, at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday. The US Ambassador and Bangladesh’s finance minister discussed matters of mutual interests .While making his observations, Thomas obliquely referred to the killing of, and death threats to, journalists in recent times The minister however rejected Thomas's remark and said the journalists of the country are enjoying much freedom except some isolated incidents. Assigned by the current US administration in 2002, Ambassador Thomas, now set to return to the State Department, was all praise for US-Bangladesh relations ‘The US and Bangladesh have a great relationship and it will be strengthened further,’ Thomas said.
