Pakistani Religious Schools Drop Objections to Registration Law

Pakistan's Islamic schools have agreed to register with the government by the end of the year.

Members of an umbrella group representing the country's estimated 13,500 madrassas dropped their objections following talks with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. The representatives said Friday that Pakistan agreed to allow the schools to register without identifying the sources of their funding.

Pakistan's madrassas have been under increased scrutiny since it became known that at least one of the four London bombers had visited madrassas in Pakistan before the attacks this July.
