Simultaneous bomb explosions at a number of courtrooms across southern Bangladesh have killed at least two people on Monday , and police say the blasts may be linked to a nationwide wave of attacks August 17th. Police detained several suspects following the blasts, which rocked courthouses in the towns of Chandpur and Laxmipur and in Chittagong port, all southeast of Dhaka. Some 400 bombs exploded across Bangladesh on August 17th. Police blamed the outlawed Islamic group Jamaat-ul-Mujahedin because the group's leaflets demanding Islamic rule were found at the scene of most of the blasts. On Sunday, police filed criminal charges against a large number of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen members. Senior police officials say the new round of blasts could also be a reaction to Saturday's arrest of Muslim cleric Mufti Abdul Hannan, the fugitive leader of another terrorist organization.
