Howard Schaffer is the former US Ambasssador to Bangladesh and takes a keen interest in Bangladesh. In this exclusive interview with VOA Ambassador Schaffer says Jamat-e-Islami one of the fundamentalist parties in the present coalition government may have links with the terrorists. He says that the government has been soft on the Islamic extremism because two Islamic parties are the partners in the present government. Mr. Schaffer says that the lack of good governance, flow of fund from terrorist network and the bickerings between the two main political parties in Bangladesh are the reasons behind this rise of Islamic exremism. Ambassador Schaffer is the Deputy Director of the Institute for the study of Diplomacy.
