Bangladeshi Police Confiscate Explosives Near Dhaka

Bangladeshi authorities say security forces have confiscated a large cache of explosives in a raid on a house near the capital, Dhaka.

A police chief in Gazipur town said on Tuesday that police found nearly nine kilograms of ammonium nitrate, timing devices and other bomb making components, and arrested at least five suspects.

Meanwhile, authorities say they have arrested close to 200 suspected Islamic militants in connection with a deadly series of bombings that began in August and so far have claimed 19 lives, including two judges.

Police blamed the attacks on the outlawed Islamic militant group, Jumatul Mujahedin Bangladesh, which wants to impose strict Islamic law in the Muslim-majority, but secular, country.
