Senior leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Thursday said that the Prime Minister’s threat to bring treason charges against the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament was nothing but an “ill attempt” to protect the militants and divert public attention from the ongoing movement for reform of the Caretaker Government, the Election Commission and electoral laws.
The opposition blamed Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia of creating ground for the “third force’s” intervention in the country under a design to thwart election debacle of the BNP-led ruling alliance and protect her party leaders from public wrath.
