The Supreme Court on Monday granted the Chief Election Commissioner’s plea for leave to appeal for overturning the High Court judgement that asked the Election Commission to update the electoral roll based on the existing one and set May 14 for appeal hearing.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed JR Mudassir Husain, also exonerated CEC Justice MA Aziz, an incumbent judge of the Supreme Court, and ruling BNP lawmaker Nurul Islam Moni from contempt of court for their alleged lack of confidence in the highest court.
The court disposed of the rule relating to contempt of court with some observations, which were not immediately available.
