The new US Ambassador in Bangladesh Patricia A Butenis called for participation of all political parties in the forthcoming general elections in a level playing field and ensuring free and fair elections, free from violence, intimidation and attempted cheating. She said the democratic institutions must be active in solving problems. The media and parliament can also play a vital role in halting confrontational politics, she added.
Ambassador Butenis place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi. She stayed at the Bhaban observing different mementos and said that the way to honor Sheikh Mujib’s memory is through free and fair election . Earlier she also placed wreath at Late President Ziaur Rahman’s grave . Paying tributes to two leaders ,she described Mujib and Zia as two architects of the independence of Bangladesh.
