Carissa Huq, who is originally from Bangladesh and was born in Houston, is 17 years old in an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service says that her hobbies include reading novels, listening to music, watching comedy and romance movies, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, and hopes to to visit many different countries.
Carissa’s favorite subjects are science and math and she plans on going to college to study in the medical field to eventually become a physician. At school, she is a part of various organizations such as National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Science Club. Also, she volunteers at different places, such as at the hospital, the UNICEF office, and at other community events.
Since she was young she has been participating in cultural functions of Bangladesh Association in Houston . She has done dance programs, singing programs, and fashion shows and participated in special programs such as the Ekushe February program, Boishaki Mela, picnics, etc. She values her Bangladeshi culture which is so rich and lively. She says knowing her culture was important to her because that is how she can know about her roots.
