Awami League Reiterates its  Demand for  a Change in the Election Commission

Awami League, the main opposition party in Bangladesh has rejected the recent moves by the Election Commission and has reiterated its demand that present members of the Election Commission, including the Chief Election Commissioner should resign.

Sheikh Hasina, the leader of the opposition and Awami League Chief reiterated that they would not participate in any elections before reforms in the caretaker government and the Election Commission (EC) are implemented. The AL chief said they have proposed the reforms in electoral system only to protect the people's right to vote.

In the meantime, Election Commission (EC) has finally decided to go door to door to update the existing voter list. After a long debate and resentment from both ruling and opposition parties and different quarters, the EC took the decision on Saturday. The chief election commissioner (CEC) and the two election commissioners were rigid on their stance not to go door to door to update the voter roll.
