Local government and rural development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan has rejected the recent Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) report on corruption in the country.
Among the different government departments, LGRD topped the corruption list. Mr. Bhuiyan termed the report 'untrue', 'baseless', 'politically-motivated' and a 'conspiracy' to tarnish the images of the country. He also demanded that the report should be immediately withdrawn. Meanwhile, Transparency International Bangladesh refused to withdraw its corruption index reports.
Mr. Bhuiyan told Voice of America whether it is logical to base a report totally on newspaper reports. He also said that TIB never spoke to the ministry to check information.
