The General Secretary of Awami League , Abdul Jalil has called the ruling BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and confirmed his acceptance of the BNPs invitation for holding a dialogue on political reform.
The ice began to melt when Mannan Bhuiyan phoned Jalil for a one to one dialogue. The opposition 14 party alliance , led by Awami League , has been demanding electoral reforms including the change in the Head of the Caretaker Government in order to ensure a fair election due in January 2007. The ruling party along with its partner in the coalition had been consistently refusing to talk on reform issues until recently when the opposition gave an ultimatum and the business leaders pressed for the dialogue.
